Today, United Way Toronto & York Region announced a record-setting allocation of $87-million for community programs and services in 2017-18 — about $1-million more than it invested last year.

Tonight, United Way Toronto & York Region announced a fundraising achievement of $102 million. This is the charity’s highest achievement to date and the largest United Way campaign in the world. Funds raised are directly invested in United Way programs and agencies to improve lives locally.

Earlier today, at Community Living Newmarket/Aurora, United Way Toronto & York Region is pleased to announce a $5 million contribution from Magna International. The investment will continue supporting a vital network of social service agencies as York Region grows and diversifies. This represents the largest ever gift to United Way from a corporation based in York Region and is a great jump-start towards United Way’s fundraising goal of $101.5 million.

Earlier today, after stops in Aurora and Newmarket, a bus full of excited youth and community partners pulled into downtown Toronto. These people, all part of the United Way family, came to celebrate the launch of the charity’s annual campaign. It was a symbolic journey connecting York Region and Toronto in United Way’s second region-wide campaign.

Earlier this morning, at its annual “Thanks a Million” event, United Way recognized RBC for raising an historic $13.6 million in the Toronto and York Region community, making RBC its largest corporate supporter ever.

Daniele Zanotti, a veteran United Way executive, will be the next leader of United Way Toronto & York Region. He replaces out-going CEO Susan McIsaac, who earlier this year gave notice that she’s leaving the organization to focus on spending time with her family.

New research reveals that precarious employment is widespread across York Region. Nearly 40% of York Region residents are in jobs with some degree of insecurity; they’re working irregular hours or on short-term contracts or not receiving benefits.

Tonight, 1,500 United Way Toronto & York Region supporters came together to celebrate a historic fundraising achievement. United Way President and CEO, Susan McIsaac, and United Way’s 2015 Campaign Chair, Mark Wiseman, President and Chief Executive Officer, CPP Investment Board, thanked the many volunteers, donors, agencies and community partners from Toronto and York Region for raising $100,250,000 for our community.

United Way conducts a first-ever count of homelessness in York Region. Count Me In in York Region is part of the first coordinated national effort to provide an estimated snap-shot of how many homeless individuals there are in an area in one point in time.
