Investing in people and smart businesses
A key aspect of our work is helping people build the foundation they need to move from a life of poverty to one of possibility. Employment is crucial to that foundation. The largest of its kind in Canada, the Toronto Enterprise Fund (TEF)—an innovative partnership between United Way and all three levels of government—funds social enterprises that connect people facing employment barriers with job training and work opportunities. The best part? Revenues are reinvested into these enterprises, so they can create even more jobs. (For our list of funded social enterprises, visit torontoenterprisefund.ca.)
- 479 people facing barriers received training and employment opportunities through TEF.
- 341 marginalized individuals found welcoming job environments through TEF.
